Destination Guide: Mirador del Ateneo

I’ve ALWAYS traveled on a tight budget but it’s left most of my mates baffled when they see my photos with its touristic sight (because let’s be real, attractions can get really expensive.) But there’s no secret to it, I swear! If there’s anything I do differently that saved me heaps $$$, it’s being dependent on the locals for places to check out. That’s right guys, I don’t plan my itinerary ahead of time. >:D

Think of it this way— if you wanna explore your own city, would you pay the tourist price to peep something that you could’ve seen any other day? No? So does every other local! So believe me when I tell you that they know the cheapest ways around to see the best places in town.

Now being a spontaneous trip, first in order was to ask around about Valencia. I personally enjoy getting to know the city from other people’s point of view so I know what to expect and what to look for (apart from what I’ve searched in the web, of course). But I found the Spanish in this city a tad different compared to Mexico and the rest of Central America in terms of vocabularies and slang so not everything they’ve told me stuck around.

…except for Mirador del Ateneo.

And I tell you, I’m glad it did. Mirador del Ateneo doesn’t disappoint! With an entrance fee of 3€, you get a 360° overview of the city including La Sierra de Calderona (mountain range) and the Mediterranean Sea. This is the highest spot among Valencia, guys! And if viewpoints don’t tickle your fancy, you should know that this place has a killer ambience. The city is best explored by walking and there’s no better way to end your long exhausting day other than watching the sunset by the rooftop… sitting back… drinking wine.

Whether you travel alone or not, Mirador del Ateneo is definitely the place to be!

Having second thoughts? Check these photos out!
